Part 01 — The Project & The Challenge

A BAND FOUND US ON THE INTERNET.

It started with an Instagram DM. A fan from Nepal reached out to our Technical Director, Zunayed Sabbir Ahmed (ZSA), after watching his educational videos on LED technology and live production. That DM introduced us to Kandara — Nepal’s most iconic folk-pop contemporary band with over 32 years of history — and led to one of the most significant projects Studio Z BD has ever undertaken.

Kandara wanted a technical team to take complete creative and technical ownership of their concert, Rhythm of Change, at Club Nova in Thamel, Kathmandu. Not just operate equipment — but design the entire visual and lighting narrative of the show, from scratch, with full creative freedom.

This was the first time a Bangladeshi technical production team had ever been hired to deliver a full show for a Nepali artist at this scale. A genuine Art + Tech collaboration between two nations that had never shared a production stage before.

The Venue: A Las Vegas Club in Kathmandu

Club Nova, Thamel is not a typical concert venue. It is widely considered one of the most technically advanced nightclubs in Asia — modelled precisely after Omnia, the iconic Las Vegas nightclub. The venue is equipped with state-of-the-art LED systems, kinetic lifting rigs, full trussing infrastructure, and Madrix-controlled pixel mapping. Walking into Club Nova is, in every sense, walking into a world-class production environment.

But here was the tension: Kandara is a folk-pop band rooted in Nepali culture and mountain storytelling. Their music is intimate, traditional, and emotionally charged. Club Nova is futuristic, EDM-native, and built for maximum visual impact. The contrast between these two identities was the central creative challenge — and ultimately, the greatest creative opportunity.

Language, cultural nuance, and logistics across two countries — coordinating a remote production build with a band in Nepal while operating from Bangladesh.

ZSA’s answer was to lean into the contrast, not resolve it.

Bappi was responsible for everything that appeared on screen — and in a venue built entirely around LED surfaces, that meant everything visible to the audience during the show. His job started long before the tour: sourcing and generating the visual content library that would become the backbone of the production.

Working from ZSA’s creative brief and the setlist breakdown, Bappi built a custom content library inspired by Nepal’s landscape — mountains, rivers, folklore textures, and visual themes unique to Kandara’s music. Content was generated from scratch, partly using AI-assisted tools, and composited in Resolume into a fully mapped, audio-reactive visual timeline. No stock footage. No generic loops. Every piece was made for this show.

On installation day, Bappi configured the entire VJ system — software, plugins, and licenses — and integrated PTZ camera feeds into the live visual layer. During the show, he operated the VJ panel, triggering cues and reacting in real time to the performance.

Sifat took ownership of the lighting design — a role that on this project carried extraordinary weight. Club Nova’s lighting infrastructure is sophisticated: multiple fixture types, kinetic elements, and full truss coverage across a nightclub designed to compete with Las Vegas standards. Designing for that environment requires precision, fluency, and a strong visual instinct.

Sifat built the lighting design from ZSA’s creative direction and the setlist breakdown. Every cue was built per song — moods, transitions, key moments, and builds. The lighting wasn’t background atmosphere. It was narrative. When Kandara performed Leka Ki Hay Maya and the crowd sang louder than the singer, the lights were already there — building the moment before it happened.

On show day, Sifat’s design received endorsement and collaboration from Bijay and Kiran — two respected names on the Nepali production side — a testament to the quality and professionalism of the work delivered from Bangladesh.

How the Production Month Ran

THE BUILD: ONE MONTH, THREE TRACKS.

After the recce, the team returned to Dhaka and split into their lanes. Studio Z BD continued delivering other projects simultaneously — because that’s the reality of a working production studio — but Kandara always came back to the front of the desk. Here’s how the production month unfolded:

Phase 01 — Creative Blueprint

ZSA built the show’s creative framework — a song-by-song breakdown in an Excel file, mapping the emotional arc of the setlist to visual and lighting treatments. Every team member worked from this document. This is how you build a synchronized show: shared language before a single piece of content is made.

Phase 02 — Content Generation

Bappi began sourcing and generating visual content — drawing from the landscapes visited during the recce trip, including Fulchowki mountain. Content was composited and built into Resolume, mapped to the setlist timeline. Audio-reactive layers were built and tested against the songs.

Phase 03 — Lighting Programming

Sifat programmed the full lighting design against the same setlist timeline — building cues, designing signature moments, and writing the SFX sequences. The goal: lights that feel inevitable, like they were always meant to be there.

Phase 04 — Iteration & Idea Jamming

The team held regular sessions — reviewing progress, testing ideas, challenging each other. Complete creative freedom from Kandara meant complete creative responsibility for us. We pushed every idea until it was the best version of itself.

How We Solved the Three Challenges

EVERY CHALLENGE HAD AN ANSWER.

The three challenges identified before the project began were real. Here’s how Studio Z BD solved each one — and why the solutions made the show stronger.

Identity Contrast: A traditional folk-pop band performing inside a futuristic Las Vegas-style nightclub. How do you serve both without betraying either?

We leaned into it. The contrast became the concept. Kandara’s mountain culture, folklore, and emotional storytelling became the visual narrative — played across Club Nova’s cutting-edge LEDs. The juxtaposition wasn’t a problem. It was the spectacle.

Cross-Border Production: Building a show for a band in Nepal, from Bangladesh, with language and cultural barriers in between — and no way to run a live rehearsal before installation week.

We invested in the recce. Flying to Nepal before production began wasn’t optional — it was how we made the show possible. Meeting the band in person, walking the venue, understanding the songs culturally: that trip replaced months of guesswork with clear direction.

Total System Sync: Six independent technical systems — lights, VJ, kinetic rig, PTZ cameras, Madrix LED, lyric sync — all needed to feel like one unified experience, live, with no margin for error.

On 22 January 2026, the Australian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh, hosted its annual Australia Day celebration, showcasing Australian culture and strengthening the Australia–Bangladesh bilateral relationship. The event was managed by Extra Cheese, and Studio Z was brought in to execute a projection mapping installation that enhanced the architectural space with immersive visuals.

While Studio Z was responsible for the projection mapping design and technical execution, the source content was externally provided by the client.

The objective was to create a visually engaging architectural projection experience that reflected the spirit of Australia during the official celebration.

Client Goals & Project Challenges

The collaboration began after the client witnessed Studio Z’s previous work during the German Day celebration in Dhaka. Impressed by that immersive projection mapping experience, they sought to create something similar for Australia Day.

Deliver a visually engaging projection mapping experience for diplomatic guests
Elevate the celebration atmosphere using immersive visuals
Reflect Australian identity through mapped content
Replicate the impact of previous international national day events

Key Challenges

A significantly limited production budget
Pre-sourced content not originally designed for the physical mapping surface
Late realization that the supplied video content did not align with the architectural installation

Additionally, the client chose to source pre-made video content created for a different purpose, rather than commissioning content tailored specifically for the mapped structure. This created a technical and creative mismatch between surface geometry and visual storytelling.

Studio Z’s Creative & Technical Intervention

Although Studio Z is widely recognized as one of Bangladesh’s leading projection mapping studios with a strong portfolio of high-profile shows, the team was not engaged to develop full creative content for this installation.

Instead, Studio Z was tasked primarily with:

Mapping and adapting externally sourced video content onto the architectural surface
Engineering the projection alignment and surface calibration
Ensuring visual continuity across irregular structural dimensions

When it became clear at the final stage that the supplied content would appear awkward and disconnected from the physical structure, Studio Z stepped in to refine the experience.

Last-Minute Creative Adjustments

To prevent the installation from feeling like a standard AV playback, the team:

Designed custom intro and outro animation sequences
Created transitional motion elements to bridge content gaps
Enhanced timing and playback structure for better audience flow

Tools involved in the process included professional projection mapping workflows using Resolume Arena for surface mapping and playback control, alongside rapid motion graphic adjustments prepared under tight time constraints.

While Studio Z typically avoids projects where content and mapping are not developed cohesively, the team chose to support this celebration as a matter of national pride and professional responsibility.

Results & Audience Response

Given that audience expectations were moderate, the final presentation was received positively within the diplomatic environment. The projection mapping installation added visual depth and elevated the ambiance of the celebration.

However, from Studio Z’s internal creative perspective, the project did not fully represent the studio’s capability. The team’s creative and technical potential remained underutilized due to constraints in content development and budget scope.

The event served its purpose in enhancing the celebration environment, but it also highlighted the importance of cohesive content design in architectural projection mapping.

Lessons Learned & Future Direction

Every project contributes to long-term growth — even those with constraints.

Content designed for screens rarely translates effectively onto architectural surfaces without adaptation.

While budget constraints are understandable, the studio aims to engage only in installations where the final output meets both client expectations and Studio Z’s internal creative standards.

When the Bangladesh music community in Sydney geared up for their biggest show of the year, the organizers wanted more than a concert — they wanted an elevated experience. On November 1st, 2025, legendary band Miles and rock giants Artcell took the stage in Sydney, Australia, supported by a brand-new visual and stage direction by Studio Z.

This was the second concert in an ongoing series, and the target was clear: go bigger than before.

The organizers approached Studio Z with one key expectation —
“Make this show the next level of experience.”

Their goals were straightforward but demanding:

Create a concert experience that outperformed the previous edition
Build a visual journey that matched the energy of Miles and Artcell
Deliver a design that felt premium, modern, and unforgettable
Handle the challenge of continuity despite cross-country logistics

Even with everything planned, a major challenge appeared:
Zunayed Sabbir Ahmed could not travel due to unavoidable circumstances.

Yet the show had to go on — flawlessly.

Studio Z’s Creative & Technical Execution

Studio Z delivered a full visual production package for Sydney Music Fest 2025, including:

Custom visuals were produced for both Miles and Artcell — crafted to match their music style, stage energy, and audience expectations.

All video teasers, social media reels, and promotional materials for the concert were created by Studio Z to drive hype and ticket engagement.

Even with Zunayed unable to travel, the visuals were fully operated by lighting designer
Mohammad Ridwan, who executed the complete playlist precisely as designed.

The synergy between pre-built visuals and on-site lighting made the entire performance feel live, fluid, and deeply connected to the artists.

The feedback was overwhelming.

Audiences described the concert as the best Bangladeshi community show ever held in Sydney.

On 21 November 2025, Akij Bashir Group hosted an internal corporate Dealers’ Meet at Sea Palace, Cox’s Bazar, curated by Exxelo Communications.
The goal was clear: deliver an inspiring, future-forward message — “Evolving Beyond” — and make every participant feel it, not just hear it.

Studio Z was entrusted with VJ, laser visuals, special visual performances, lighting show design, AV adaptation, and song visuals, transforming the event into a high-impact immersive experience where technology and emotion worked together.

Set against the coastal backdrop of Cox’s Bazar, the venue became a live storytelling space — blending visuals, sound, light, and audience energy into a unified brand experience.

The Creative & Technical Solution

Studio Z approached the project as a complete experiential journey, not isolated show segments.

1️⃣ Immersive Stage Show

From the opening moment to the final cue, Studio Z designed seamless, custom immersive visuals that flowed continuously throughout the event.
Live audience participation data subtly influenced the visuals, creating a dynamic feedback loop where the crowd felt involved rather than passive.

2️⃣ Immersive Laser–LED Gambit Show

The brand moment was elevated with a laser–LED mapping performance — where laser beams appeared to engrave visuals directly onto LED surfaces.
This cutting-edge technique, still rare in Bangladesh, delivered a cinematic reveal that symbolized precision, progress, and technological evolution.

3️⃣ Custom Immersive Presentation Design

For the Director of Marketing’s keynote, Studio Z created a custom immersive presentation template.
Instead of static slides, the presentation interacted visually with the stage environment — reinforcing key messages through motion, light, and spatial design.

Together, these elements formed a cohesive show language that consistently echoed the core theme: Evolving Beyond limits, expectations, and convention.

The dealers’ meet successfully broke away from the traditional corporate event format and set a new internal benchmark for AkijBashir Group.
